[ Zoe Hanji is known to be overly emotional and unconventional regarding Titans. This particular experiment? Has been to test exactly how much is needed to remove off of a Titan's neck in order for it to die. For while it has always been known a certain depth has been required to slay one, the exact dimensions and grams have not been known.

But she has cut too much into one.

And the captive Titan is beginning to sizzle away. ] AHHHHHHHHHH----!

You, cadet! Help me, hold your hand here....! [ She shows where. That's right, she's ordering Armin to hold the nape she has cut off back in place on the Titan. While she..... while she seems to be preparing a crude needle and thread to begin suturing. ]

[ Armin had just finished delivering off some documents and was on his way back to the dorms when he hears this utterly despairing wail. and he just can't help but to check what was going on.

too bad for him, because now he was forced to hold onto a piece of the titan. which was not exactly a pleasant thing to do. but Hanji was sadly a superior.]

S-Squad Leader Hanji, is this... [ "necessary"? no he couldn't say that to someone who was so attached to titans. trying to not show how creeped out he was in holding a piece of the titan, he instead asks something else ] Is this going to work...?

[ yes, Armin had never been so glad for gloves. if it wasn't Eren's, he had no hobby of holding titan flesh with his bare hands. he adamantly kept looking away at the titan, not really being someone who enjoys a splatter scene ]

[ Armin honestly has no idea what gender Hanji was. it was one of the mysteries he intended to figure out before he died. holding still as possible, he stands straight like a good soldier waiting for Hanji to do her business, mentally praying she gets it over quickly ]

[ She's doing her very best to suture up the flesh back in place but she's already lost time and it's becoming very hard to concentrate and she sobbing because TEDDY IS GOING TO DIE and it is all her fault--! ]

[ Five stitches, ten stitches, twenty stitches, each increasingly sloppy in her desperation... and it is all to no avail. The Titan is a goner. Armin might realize that the flesh he's holding in place is simply dissolving into ash and steam. ]

[ this scene is utter chaos. just utter. chaos. an evaporating titan, a sobbing Hanji trying to sew flesh back on, with Armin keeping his eyesight everywhere but the titan looking stiff as aboard.

but when the lump on his hand feels to get lighter, he finally looks at it and sees it almost gone. which, relieves Armin at first, but remembering Hanji he gulps and looks towards her ]

Squad Leader Hanji.... I-It couldn't be helped! You did the best you could do to save it!! [ and now he braces himself for whatever sobbing or yelling or jumping or dancing Hanji might do ]

[ SOBBING AND SHAKING AND CRYING, letting the dust of the Titan blow off from her hands. ] T-teddy....

[ a part of Armin wants to cry as well. not for "Teddy" but for the fact that he was only just a curious bystander and now Hanji was sobbing on his shoulder.

he takes off his gloves, and awkwardly pats Hanji's shoulder in a comforting fashion ]

I'm sure it...Teddy was happy to have met you. [ yeah he's just bs-ing things as usual. anything to make Hanji stop melting her eyes off ]

[ Glancing back forlornly at the pile of ash that had been Teddy!! Which incurs another sob. Can she blow her nose into your sleeve, because she's going to do that. ] Teddy will be avenged!

[ Nevermind she had technically been the one who killed him, but she's saying the next experiment will do better. ]

[ Armin writes in big letters in his mental notepad to NOT get near Hanji during an experiment ever again. ever. no matter what wailing sound there is ]

Yes... [ is what all Armin can say. he doesn't want to say the wrong thing that makes Hanji go off on her overly emotional side again. he follows her back inside, hoping that maybe there will be people this time! ...it's not like everyone left the vicinity of Hanji right? ]

Thankfully by the time they are inside Hanji's sobs have dimmed enough to be sniffles. And a hiccup or two.

Sitting down at the wooden table, she folds her hands together, resting her chin on them thoughtfully. ]




We have to capture a new one.

since Armin hadn't be allowed to let go, he follows her to the table and sits across from her, hands on his lap, counting the wood marks on the table, waiting. this is nerve wracking, he had no idea what kind of things Hanji was going to say. ]



W-Wha? [ he wasn't sure if he was relieved Hanji spoke or not ] Er....I agree, Squad Leader, capturing a titan to study its action is important for our future. I'm sure Chief Irvin will keep that in mind for our next expedition.

Squad Leader, going into titan territory when it's not during a proper expedition is highly dangerous! Permission needs to be granted by Chief Irvin and preparations need to be made! A-And, it's getting late!!

[ But Armin does have a point. As loathe as she is to admit it, she can't capture a Titan by herself. ] So don't worrrry, I'll take care of the arrangements. Suit up, cadet, we're going on a hunt.

So after a brief conversation (as Commander Irwin seems to have a knack for understanding the entire situation on the spot and does not waste breath on the unnecessary), Hanji seems to have her plan turned down.

And the Squad Leader could not seem more deflated with the Commander leaves. ]

[ Commander Irwin has never been such a great superior. Armin is once more glad he joined. Sort of. he would honestly be more glad if it weren't for the crazy he goes though...

there she was talking with him animatedly, laughing at some of the things he says, and generally looking like she had a fun time. they stop in front of the kaburagi house as they talk for a bit more before she waves goodbye and comes back into the house ]
